The fact that Steve Albini recorded this Philadelphia
trio's debut in 1996 and the bassist plays an upright
electric, is perhaps the first give away that Stinking
Lizaveta are likely to be a bit weird. Add to that the
fact most of the songs on here are instrumentals and
it's fair to say it's worth leaving preconceptions at
the door before listening to this.

Punk, jazz, doom and alternative rock are thrown
together in songs that veer from the epic pomp of
classic metal to frenetic jazzy interludes and driving
Black Sabbath riffs. At times you might wonder if it's
just a joke, but for those intrigued but too perplexed
by the complete off-kilter lunacy of John Zorn this is
definitely worth a try.
