Heavy, heavier, heavier still, the heaviest. The quadruple bill at Johnny Brenda's tonight will not be for the faint of heart or the delicate of eardrum. The headliner is all-instrumental, West Philadelphia "doom jazz" band Stinking Lizaveta - consisting of brothers Yanni and Alexi Papadopoulos and drummer Cheshire Agusta, who are appropriately named after a mute character in Fyodor Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov. The veteran trio's new album, Sacrifice & Bliss, due out March 31, is as expansive, adventurous and involving as the band's open-eared followers have come to expect. Also intriguing will be a rare appearance by Iron Man, the Maryland metal band fronted by guitarist Alfred Morris III, the African American Ozzy Osbourne fan.

PS Sorry about the weak format. I paid money to scan the thing itself from original newsprint which is fast becoming a relic, I might add. The article even included a fine picture of the band graciously provided by Jim Saah...But alas, neither WordPress nor Dada seems to be able to accept the file. I'm frustrated with these programs. It seems unlikely that they are broken or buggy. It's inconceivable that I'm a complete moron. It's absolutely certain that these programs are wonderfully, fascinatingly, frustratingly opaque.
